Why ISB?

Why Do Families Choose ISB? 🤔

When people first come to ISB they have sought us out for several important reasons.
Their choices are varied but also clear that there are several very good reasons as to why our students and parents find it hard to leave.

  • ISB prides itself on being a genuine intercultural school because we have a highly qualified international teaching staff from Asia, the USA and Australia. All teachers have been selected for their high-level teaching skills and wide range of experience, care and understanding of child development and mixed learning strategies. Our teachers are leaders by regularly running professional development activities for other international and host country teachers both in this region and abroad. Your children are in safe hands.

  • The educational benefits of multi age classrooms are well documented and simply make sense when you think about it. Standards are improved when older students have a chance to mentor and teach concepts to younger children and that process actual cements the learning for the older children. Younger students have wonderful role models in the older peers and are motivated to achieve higher.

  • There is no doubt that when people leave our school the big thing, they miss is the wonderful sense of community that we foster here at ISB. From our regular Friday assemblies where we also have a mini produce market selling organic coffee, vegetables, potted herbs and flowers and a variety of baked cakes and breads to our many social functions that bring the whole community together, everyone agrees there is something special about our school. Many families continue to return and join us at social events for years to come. As one recent Grade 8 student so aptly said in his final speech: “ISB is truly a small school with a big heart.”

  • We have a truly international community with over 15 different nationalities in our classes. Our balance of local Indonesian students with our international students means all students are exposed to a wide range of beliefs, customs, and languages. English is the language of our playground as well as our classes. Our curriculum is also a deliberate mix of English-speaking curricula from around the world all integrated with Fieldwork International: IEYC and IPC curriculum.

  • Not only do we help students to develop the intellectual, personal, social and emotional skills to learn in a rapidly changing world, but we place a strong emphasis on intercultural understanding. This is underpinned with clear sense of community service that is often developed through our extensive extracurricular program.

  • Through key links forged with the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) it makes sense that ISB has a curriculum that recognises the importance of “green issues” and fosters environmental stewardship from an early age. Our school is a leader in developing units of inquiry that encourage study of key global issues and we are one of a handful of schools in Indonesia that runs a state-of-the-art ozone monitoring station as part of an international confederacy of schools. Here at ISB we are always looking for ways to improve our green image.

Our ISB Stories

Past meets Future

The Intercultural School of Bogor was originally founded in 1974 as the Bogor Expatriate School (BES) to educate children from the international community in Bogor.

It has been the centre of the Expat Community in Bogor for five decades and thanks to new regulations, in 1998 we opened our doors to Indonesian families. The name evolved to the Intercultural School of Bogor to reflect a truly multicultural, compassionate, community learning environment.

Our future

ISB turns 50 this year and our future is looking strong and healthy as we grow and develop on our heritage

Our future is forming in the lives of young students through ‘heads, hearts and hands’ - thinking, feeling and doing learning experiences.
